Book Description
Since the introduction of football by British settlers to the re-appropriation of the sport by blacks, football has witnessed the vicissitudes of society. Used to enslave the local population, it has become, paradoxically, a tool for the fight against apartheid for black populations. Since the end of this segregationist policy, the South African territory has still not managed to wipe out legacies of the past. Even today distance and mobility are factors of segregation. The study of the Amazulu FC club, considered as representative of a Zulu community, makes it possible to highlight the territorial problems Durbanites and, beyond, South African. The club, located in the township of KwaMashu, has evolved by its professionalization so the distance between the structuring places has increased and that between the club and its supporters as well. Their economic situation not allowing them to use the public transport network, led them to deserted the stadium despite the actions to help carried out by the club. The evolution of the Amazulu territory can be reported at the country level.
