This volume is based on the contributions and discussions of two Conferences of the European Constitutional Law Network (ECLN) on the foundations of democratic theory, an analysis of the causes of the financial crisis and the role of the courts in their administration, the protection of the fundamental rights of the citizens of the Union and the strengthening of citizenship and participation through digitization to concrete reform proposals. A dialogical epilogue by Joseph Weiler and some of the authors gives some ideas for further discussion and reflection, which will be important in the coming years, if the EU, as a democratic union of citizens, emerges from the crises and wants to develop further.
