New knowledge of the flow around motor vehicles must now be brought to consider an improvement in their aerodynamic performance. This thesis work is based on experimental studies carried out in the wind tunnel, allowing the analysis and understanding of the physical mechanisms associated with three-dimensional unsteady airborne flows developing at the rear of motor vehicles. It focuses more particularly on the generic geometry of the body of Ahmed to reproduce the flows at the rear of vehicle type hatchback (rear window and base). The study first allows to characterize the interactions existing between the different structures of the flow, and of analyze in a second time the unsteady mechanisms associated with the three-dimensional detachment developing on the rear window. This book is aimed at an informed readership in experimental fluid mechanics and aerodynamics.
