Book Description
The areas in which most of the learners struggle were identified as follows: language, Limited English Proficiency, reading, writing, spelling, handwriting, mathematics and lifeskills. In addition, behavioural and emotional problems were also tackled. The gifted learner is in most cases forgotten when people talk about a learner with barriers because it is assumed that such a learner can cope unassisted. For learners to be "Included" and supported successfully, it is necessary for educators to collaborate and be in a position to prepare Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or Individual Learning Support Programme (ILSP) for all learners who need additional support. This manual is not an end in itself and it does not take away the teacher's right to use his/her initiative and innovation. It is meant to give ideas on how to assist learners. Teachers will need to augment the information supplied in their efforts to accommodate the diversity of needs in their classrooms. Hoping that this book will assist you in your endeavour to address barriers to learning and development by supporting learners in the ordinary classroom.
