The "Dialakoto pocket", located in the Tambacounda region of southeastern Senegal, is a much coveted area of ​​space. It is also a space with stakes, a space of competition between two competing production systems: agriculture and gathering. There is a high concentration of activities, in a relatively small area (about 14,000 hectares), densely populated (more than 30 inhabitants per km²) and caught between two natural forest reserves, the Niokolo Koba National Park to the south and the Forèt Classée of Diambour in the north, which have respectively 913,000 and 121,500 hectares. The periphery of the Park and the strong urban demand for bush products favor an important gathering activity. In fact, the picking products are no longer limited to the complement function in the rural people, they presently represent a real economic interest. Gathering is no longer a fortuitous act, but a real production activity generating substantial income complementary to lower and lower farm income.
