Book Description
In eastern Chad, the influx of refugees from Darfur from 2003, the resurgence of Chadian rebellions and inter-communal conflict has increased environmental degradation and insecurity. The deployment from 2008 of a European and then UN protection force does not prevent abuses that affect the civilian population and the humanitarian presence. Anglo-Saxon research on "environmental conflicts" that emerged after the end of the Cold War makes resource shortages a central cause of violence. But the perpetuation of the war in Ouaddaï requires also to question the functioning of the territory and power, the role of memory, and the modalities of integration of Chad into globalization.
