This doctoral thesis deals with the analysis of the recreational function of the Walloon forest. The analysis of the public demand was carried out via three methods of investigation (telephone survey, in situ investigation, survey of the managers). As for the recreational offer, it was apprehended through a comprehensive compilation of data. These demand and supply analyzes were used as a basis for developing a model for estimating the number of visits for the Walloon forest as a whole. An economic estimate of these visits was made by adapting, with a certain number of assumptions, the methods of travel costs and contingent valuation to the Walloon regional context as well as to the available data. These different methods of The investigation has quantified the importance of the recreational function at the regional level while also highlighting local variations. Recommendations for taking into account the recreational function in forest policy, both at regional and local level, have therefore been proposed.
