Book Description
The problematic of the book concerns the Algerian western steppe. Considered as a vast, open, low-populated space, characterized by a nomadic way of life and adapted to a rigid and constraining natural environment, this rural region in southwestern Algeria is experiencing ever-greater spatial and social changes. Integrating within the framework of regional and social geography, this research aims to highlight these transformations by dealing with the question of sedentarisation of nomads (its rhythm, its modes and the strategies of nomads wanting to settle). After having illuminated with an economic glance this so-called "crisis of pastoralism" by studying the primary sector and the policy of agricultural development encouraged by the State; it will be spatial, from analyze the organization of the urban and rural framework within the region as well as the factors of this new spatial structuring.
