Book Description
The agglomeration of Sfax (500 000 inhabitants), in central-eastern Tunisia, is characterized by a significant polluting industrial activity. Wind and weather types are analyzed to determine their impacts on the distribution of meteorological parameters and air pollution. The aim is to better orient impact studies in the future and to determine the factors responsible for the deterioration of air quality. The type of weather, the density and the volume of the built surfaces, the orientation and the encashment of streets are the main factors explaining the spatial distribution of the meteorological variables mentioned above. Pollution peaks recorded in the city center are recorded between 8 pm and midnight, during the days of sea breeze during the nighttime overthrow. Fixed and traveling CO measurements as well as numerical modeling of SO2 levels highlight the impact of wind speed, direction, boundary layer height, emission sources and urban morphology. on the quality of the air. Through a GIS, the space affected by an overrun of SO2 rates advocated by WHO is defined.
