Book Description
The village of Wodobere is on a "ground" surrounded by a vast alluvial plain and is located in the extreme North East of the rural community of Ouro-sidy (Kanel). In the image of Damga, in deprive of the existence potentially exploitable land and water resources, this part of Senegal is characterized by an exanguine economy and the absence of income-generating activities. Thus, in the absence of a rational agricultural exploitation, emigration has emerged as an alternative to make up for the lack of economic prosperity because, in addition to the disparities between coastal towns and the hinterland, the episodic cycles of droughts of the 1970s have hit Damga hard. This results in a fall in agricultural production and the scarcity of food resources. The key sectors of the local economy are subject to the vicissitudes of the climate. Indeed, man's response to this hostile environment was not death but rather mobility. In this book, we show the typology of emigration and its factors but also the changes that it generates on the environment of origin.
