Book Description
Multispectral satellite imagery is an invaluable source of information for various fields. These images characterize the variation of the reflectance of objects in the solar spectrum. However, the sensor measurements are also affected by parasitic factors related to the conditions of illumination and observation, the atmosphere, the topography and the properties of the sensors. Two questions preoccupied us in this research. What is the best approach to reproduce the ground-based reflectances from the digital values recorded by the sensors taking into account these parasitic factors? Is this restitution an important condition for extracting reliable information from the images according to the problems specific to the different applications? So, this book presents a methodology for the return of the ground reflectance based on the formulation of the 6S code and implemented as software (REFLECT). The latter was then used to show the importance of using ground-based reflectance rather than raw images for various remote-sensing applications.
