Book Description
The city is not the object on which we would draw a border or of which we must reconstruct an image. The city is the subject co-author of this map, so really map it is. To listen to the voices of the city means to immerse oneself in the streets and squares, in cafes and restaurants; it means listening to the words of the inhabitants, following the paths and sharing the rhythms of presence in space. This can not be translated into an exercise of synthesis, of systematization, because this cacophony of various and varied sounds resists any attempt to spread it in a homogeneous figure. The question is no longer to produce an image faithful to reality, but to give voice and presence to a series of interrogations and often contradictory heterogeneous phenomena. To follow this path, Fabio Mattioli approaches Skopje in the materiality of its space, built and undeveloped, inhabited or not, frequented or deserted. It starts from the given of the division to think the contact: the limits and the borders of the city can they be exceeded in the public space?
