Book Description
Driver assistance systems, in general, and more particularly collision avoidance systems are increasingly present in vehicles because they have a very high potential for reducing the number of accidents. Traffic. In order to react properly, the system first needs a very faithful representation of the environment of the vehicle. This perception of the environment is made by merging the data of several exteroceptive sensors in order to detect and track potential obstacles and to recognize the traffic route configuration. It is then necessary to analyze the perceived scene over time in order to assess the risk of collision incurred by the carrier vehicle of the system. Finally, when the risk of collision reaches a threshold deemed critical, the system must calculate a collision avoidance trajectory that will then be automatically executed. Several approaches are proposed and compared then the methods chosen are tested and evaluated on data of actual runs and simulations.
