Book Description
This dissertation focuses on electromagnetic turbulent flow control and deals with direct numerical simulations of forcing configuration in an academic plane channel geometry. The goal of this research is to reduce the power required for active control to reduce drag. This research has promising naval applications, such as flow separation prevention and drag reduction. Wall-flush electrodes and under-wall magnets make up the electromagnetic actuators that can generate Lorentz forces. These local forces act directly on the seawater boundary layer. The present study focuses mainly on the Parallel electromagnetic actuator where magnets and electrodes are parallel to each other. A great diversity of direct numerical simulations has been carried out in order to obtain a better understanding of the mechanisms used in the reduction of drag generated by both oscillating transverse and longitudinal propulsive electromagnetic forcings.
