The book is devoted to studying the process of forming the Atlantic component of the US foreign policy, which determines the leadership role of the United States in the creation and evolution of the executive structures of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) at the turn of 1940-1950. A detailed analysis is made of the mechanism and process of foreign policy decision making in the administration of US President G. Truman, the role of the president’s closest circle in the ideological formulation of the American foreign policy of the first post-war decade. The personal specificity of the president’s relations with government officials responsible for shaping US foreign policy is explored. A comprehensive assessment of the effectiveness of the implementation of the Atlantic component, its place in the European direction of the foreign policy of the United States is being conducted.
