Book Description
How to persist culturally and linguistically when migration makes us doubly minority individuals? This is the question that is asked in this book that looks at a Kabyle presence in a multicultural Montreal. The Berber language, Tamazight, is the symbol of the challenge for official recognition in Algeria as well as an essential and sensitive identity referent in a migratory context. The Quebec Kabyle community, which has been growing steadily since the early 1990s, is organized around socio-cultural and political activities. Although it is early to decide on the fate of the "Amazighness" Quebec version, we can question the ways to consider the continuation of the struggle for the maintenance of their culture, in Algeria as in Quebec. Will we witness the birth of a typical Quebec Kabyle culture? The intention is not to answer this question but to make some hypotheses about the future of this population in the Belle Province.
